In the novel Catcher and The Rye J.D. Salinger uses foreshadowing alot in this book. He is always giving hints leading up to Holdens Mental Breakdown. He is constantly telling us things about Holden and his problems. This shows us that Salinger is dropping hints leading up to his big break down like, always thinking about his brother, feeling bad about being kicked out of yet another school and his sister being very upset about him getting the axe again.
