When the book was first released it was under alot of scrutiny for the use of words like fuck and goddamn; many other reasons were: sexual references, blasphemy, undermining of family value and moral codes. Some other reasons for the book being banned when it was first published are: Holden being a poor role model, having redbelious behavior, the promotion of; drinking, smoking, lying, and promiscuity. All were frowned upon by the population during the 1950's and even still today.
Teenagers today still have all the same problems that Holden had encountered but now they are just more current. Teens still have to face the drugs and alcohol today. Everything that was aforementioned is still happeneing all of the U.S. with teens but today we call it drama. When teens frist read the book they were shell-shocked at how it depicted them. The saw that they had a little bit of Holden Caulfield in them.
